I was trying to add a ‘back to top’ button into my “Sela” theme by adding in some code (copied/pasted from a website tutorial) into my functions.php, and now this is what shows up when I try to go to my website to view or edit it…

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION, expecting ‘)’ in /home/content/68/10908468/html/wp-content/themes/sela/functions.php on line 250

I can’t connect to my wordpress dashboard either, the same message pops up. Anyone know how to fix this?? I know it was probably dumb to just copy and paste random code, but I am fairly new to this!

need to revert back to your original functions.php file (before the recent change you made). remove code you added. functions.php is a sensitive file and sometimes and extra line or space can cause problem.

access functions.php file via FTP Client or webhosting account.
