If I take out chart=”column” it goes away, but then none of my filters are working.

This is a Google Charts error informing you that the data you are requesting is not compatible with the chart you are trying to draw. Read this plugin’s FAQ headlined “Nothing appears where my chart should be.”

I did read that. I just want to show the columns in the spreadsheet, not the chart. That doesn’t work, and the query=’select a’ doesn’t work either …

Try using the full URL to your sheet, not merely the Sheet’s ID.

Using the full URL and taking out chart=”column” worked. Weird.

That’s actually how it’s supposed to work.

I’m sorry, I’m misunderstanding the documentation. Why is there an option for a column chart if it doesn’t work?

Column charts do work, if you supply data that can be turned into a column chart as per the Google Charts documentation linked from the FAQ.

ahh, figured out where the miscommunication happened. “Column” chart in this context means a vertical bar chart. I was following the documentation on the plugin website and when I look at it, the visualizations aren’t appearing.

They are appearing for me. Consider checking to ensure your browser is actually loading necessary scripts (from Google’s CDN). You may be unintentionally blocking some of them with tools like NoScript or other add-ons.
