    Very frustrated because I really want this plugin to work and really want to be a happy customer, but am having a helluva time with the upload process/slowness.

    1. I have swapped out my current theme to the WordPress 2015 default theme. I have deactivated all my plugins except for WP All Import, Yoast SEO and the Yoast WP All Import plugin.

    2. I am on a VPS with 2 GB ram. I know you guys say you are on a 4GB but I have seen other customers complain about similar issues and they were on a 7GB server. I have tweaked all my settings and should have an issue as I have set my settings from 30 and 60 seconds to 99999 seconds and increase max post and upload file sizes.

    Here is the problem. I am trying to upload a decent sized csv file with 20,000 rows of data.

    When I do it on the demo server it takes about 22 minutes to complete the task of 20,000 rows/pages. When I do it on my sites I am only able to do 2,200 rows or 12% in the same time period.

    And that is when I am lucky and my site doesn’t give me error messages when I am attempting to upload the file and run it.

    And here is the scary part…these files aren’t even an attempt to import an image into the post.

    I have read repeatedly where you guys give vague answers about how each server is different, etc. I have spent many lengthy conversations with tech support over at my host (Bluehost) and they are telling me that all the settings I have tweaked should get the job done.

    They don’t see any errors in the error logs, etc. So, basically I am tapped out as far as coming up with any solutions there.

    Here are my settings:

    max_execution_time = 99999 seconds
    max_input_time = 99999 seconds
    max_input_vars = 99999
    memory_limit = 6000M
    upload_max_filesize = 999M
    post_max_size = 75M

    IN the troubleshooting area of the documentation section you guys write:

    “Import is not finishing? max_execution_time, mod_fcgid read data timeout, and MySQL max allowed packet and query limit settings can interfere with large imports

    Can’t get from Step 1 to Step 2, Step 2 to Step 3, etc? Broken PHP session settings will prevent you from being able to move between the different steps of the import process.”

    What does all that mean?

    I need you guys to state in plain English what my settings need to be or which ones I need to tweak otherwise I am going to have to ask for a refund. And I really don’t want a refund. I really want this to work.

    But it is beyond frustrating to have lighting quick uploads on the Demo and then get nothing even close to that on my own site.

    Please help!

    The reason that we give vague answers about how each server is different is because everyone runs a different website on a different hardware with a different database.

    You said “And that is when I am lucky and my site doesn’t give me error messages when I am attempting to upload the file and run it.” and then “They don’t see any errors in the error logs, etc”.

    If an import or upload fails, if you ever hit any error at any point in the import process, there should be a corresponding entry in your server’s error log. Your host should be able to check the log, see the problem, and provide a solution. If they can’t do that, if your server isn’t logging errors, then your host isn’t providing the services you are paying them for.

    I gave you guys a detailed description of what I have done on my end and that is the only response you have for me?

    So, what about situations where my upload does work but runs at one tenth the speed of what I get on your demo server?

    How am I supposed to figure out that situation if there isn’t an error log because it is working…but slowly?

    It could be running slower on your server compared to our demo server for any of the following reasons:

    1) Your server may have less powerful hardware.

    2) Your server may have less system resources available (for example, maybe you’re on a shared server and another user is consuming too may resources).

    3) Your WordPress site might have a lot of existing posts. The larger your database the longer every step of the import process takes for each post.

    4) Your WordPress database might be very large for some reason even if you don’t have very many posts on your site.

    5) Your host may be in some way preventing your site from using too many system resources and could be throttling PHP, MySQL, or your CPU usage.

    If you like you can submit a support request and we can take a look and see if there’s something that we can do to help: https://www.wpallimport.com/support/

    I know you said you’ve already reviewed our documentation, but, if anyone else is following along we have some more information on why imports slow down and how to speed up them up: https://www.wpallimport.com/documentation/advanced/import-processing/#speed

    Just went another round with the support team and we made a tweak but it didn’t really speed up the upload time (but I am hoping that it allows me to increase the upload size).

    We changed the mod_fcgi to suphp

    I asked him to look at the five points you mentioned above and he didn’t see anything on his end that would suggest that those were a cause.

    Here are the Bluehost server specs:

    and more…

    I asked him to give me his best guess as to why there is a difference in performance and he said he really didn’t have a good answer other than…since you guys are dealing with this as a business that you guys have your servers optimized for this specifically. He also speculated that there might be an i/o difference.

    So, here I sit right now forced to break a 50000 row file into five pieces and then upload each one individually at a rate of about an 70-80 minutes per each one for a total of 6+ hours.

    And I have absolutely no desire to ever want to update them if it is going to take me even longer the next time.

    Also…I have the chat transcript if that would be in any way helpful. I can send a support ticket…but I have already previously before I posted here and hadn’t heard anything (probably at bottom of the queue) and I am not sure what to even right or add at this point in an email to support.

    Hi JTuner77,

    Did you ever get your import to work at all?

    Many thanks!

    the import plugin works…just not very well on large imports.

    I think there is use for it for those who are looking to do a couple hundred to a thousand posts/listings.

    We have some updated documentation on import speed which may help: https://www.wpallimport.com/documentation/troubleshooting/slow-imports/

    We’ve had users who imported over a million records with WP All Import (https://www.universities.com/about-us/). The problem isn’t WP All Import, so much as it is WordPress database schema – the more data you have in your database, the longer it takes to import each record, or really to do anything that involves querying the database.

    Running a huge WordPress site involves a lot of database optimization, with or without WP All Import.

    I turner, i have some kind of the same problem and looking for solutions. Have you already been able to speedup the process and without errors?
