Can't access local host at all

    I’m running chrome version 46.0.2490.86 (64-bit) on OSX 10.11.1
    I’ve also downloaded the latest version of WordPress and MAMP.

    I’m attempting to set up WordPress, but at step 4 I continue to run into the same issue. Whenever I attempt this, “Lastly, we’ve got to run WordPress’ famous 5-minute install. Visit your local site (localhost:port or localhost:port/wordpress)”, I always get Server Error 500. I’ve also tried just accessing localhost with the same result. It isn’t the firewall as far as I can tell, and I’ve tried researching the issue without much luck.

    Any suggestions?

    I’m not exactly sure what the issue was, but I tried it again today and for some reason it worked this time around.
