Code Help Needed! WordPress as CMS and Blog.

  • I would like to run my site as a CMS (and I’m using the Mimbo 2.2 theme, which does this). My index, root, home page shows selected articles of my choosing. But I’d also like to have a traditional blog a page titled ‘Blog’ that has all of my most recent posts. The problem is that the two pages are syncing up (don’t want them to) and I can’t get anything to post on the ‘Blog’ page.

    I’m running WP 2.32, but this didn’t work on 2.31 either. I’ve looked through all of the relevant forum topics and documentation, and have not been able to figure out how to do what I’m wanting to do with WordPress. I’m a newbie, so dumbing down any advice or code instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    So far, nothing has worked, here is what I’ve tried.
    1. Tried running the front page as dynamic.
    2. Tried front page as static with ‘blog’ as my posts page.
    3. Added a blog.php file as suggested on the site documentation.

    But nothing seems to work, and my site is in stall mode. Someone, please help me!

  • Do you have a site address? Sometimes, it’s easier to look and fix. I’ve used WP off and on as a CMS—but I’m not quite clear what it is you’re trying to do.

    It sounds like you want a category called Blog, with blog posts there—anything you’d want to show up in the blog would just get dropped into that category.

    The sync thing—I think what you want to do is exclude the blog category from the home page.

    I had something similar with another site using the same theme. Used a plug-in called “Page Links To” where the “blog” tab link would link to a specific category. I also removed the “Archive for” code. So, the front page would have all other categories posted for the different areas and one would have the most recent blog entry which links to the blog category.

    Would this method require putting all posts under the parent category ‘blog’, with different subcategories? Also, where would you remove the ‘archive for’ code?
