Unique case of white screen problem
-
Howdy all. So I’m new here and still learning a lot of the ins and outs of WordPress. I hosted my little blog through Bluehost and everything was going fine until I made an error in my theme’s functions.php file. I got the white screen and backtracked to the functions.php file (because attempting to navigate my dashboard would lead to the white screen) and corrected the error (or so I thought). However, the white screen persisted and it became so bad that I can’t see anything now. I can’t even access my dashboard anymore because it’s just a white screen.
So I started researching the problem and looked up a plethora of forum posts and articles on how to fix it. They all basically say the same thing, “Replace the theme in wp-content/themes or the functions/php file,” easy enough. So I understand HOW to fix it, but my problem is that when I went to upload the necessary files into the wp-content folder via FileZilla, I found that my theme wasn’t in there. I then looked at the plugins folder and none of the plugins I downloaded were in there.
So it seems that my WordPress blog wasn’t running through Bluehost even though I used it for installation. Now I don’t know how to access the proper WordPress files in order to fix the problem because I don’t know where they’re located.
I tried reinstalling WordPress but I still have the white screen. If I could just figure out where the proper files are located then I can take care of the rest on my own.
Maybe there’s an easy fix? Any help is appreciated. I’m probably just missing something simple…I hope.
