Adjusting a theme’s width

As you can see, the html I’ve pasted in for the post breaks the template.

Please can you tell me what WordPress names/calls the area this content is in?

Please also tell me how I can adjust it to utilize the page from the very left and also get this content up the top?

I have no choice but to use this theme but am not experienced with designing wordpress at all.
