• Hi,

I’ve finished building my WordPress site on MAMP and everything looks great.

To move a site I always use the duplicator plugin for transferring a site (and making backups) – but I’ve hit a problem and after hours and hours I can’t seem to fix it.

I’m using FastHost – when I run the duplicator installer.php file it doesn’t populate the database. I tried importing the database directly instead but it comes up with an error about using utfmb4.

I contacted fasthost who said to export the db again as UTF-8.

How do I do this and if I do so, doesn’t that mean the new WordPress update I read about (which changed from utf-8 to utfmb4 for security reasons) won’t work and my site will be less secure?

    Thanks

  • You should be able to do this by clicking advanced settings when exporting the database.

It shouldn’t affect your security, at lest I don’t think it will. I also think it will work perfectly fine.
