I’m trying to add an events section to my site but /events and /event are just redirecting to my homepage.

I can create events but can’t see them. Even when I go on preview it just previews the homepage.

I don’t have a redirect set up for it to do this.

Does anyone know why this may be happening?

    Thanks

Are you using an events management plugin?

i am yes. i’ve tried a few different ones but the one I’m using at the moment is Very Simple Event List

Have you tried asking about this in the plugin’s dedicated sub-forum (there should be a link to that sub-forum on the plugin’s WPORG page)?

Have you added anything to your site’s root .htaccess file.

i’ve deleted the plugin now but it’s still happening. I’ve just noticed that if i go to /blog page and preview it previews the homepage. I assume if i saved any changes to this page it would redirect to homepage too.

    Not added anything no.

If your root .htaccess file is only about 20 lines long, could you post it here so we can check it?

    where is that located?

In the root folder of your site. The same folder as your wp-config.php file. If you are using an ftp client to locate this file, do ensure that it is configured to show all files. .htaccess files are often hidden by default.

i’m sorry I don’t really know what any of that means. I can create pages using visual composer and use plugins but that’s about the extent of it. I don’t know what a wp-config.php file is.

an independent web designer that i haven’t really had any contact with in over a year

I think you may need to get back in touch with them. I think your issue does need to be examined – at some depth – by someone with technical expertise.

i went into Settings > Permalinks and just clicked ‘save’ and now it’s fine. Odd. Thanks for your help
