Error establishing a database connection

  • when I try to access my site, or to run the install I am met with a page that reads :

    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    I have checked everything and all the info is in line with what my server has provided. I don’t understand. Please help.

    Unfortunately, in 99% of the cases that’s not true… it’s almost always a human error while typing, copying etc.

    I just triple checked. It’s all good. Also, I know that those are good because I had the site up yesterday but today its not working.

    According to your other thread you messed with something… and when I checked your site earlier it showed the install.php file.

    okay, so, what can I do?

    Hey moshu,

    I got up this morning. I went to check my e-mail, and someone let me know they could not get to a WP post I sent them. I put the article link into IE, hit enter, and I keep getting all the following:

    Error establishing a database connection

    Are you sure that the database server is running?

    I’ve check all php, and it is solid.

    Everything was running fine when I went to bed last night, but this morning my WP is down.

    Nothing I have related to both of my WordPress installations are working as of this morning. I haven’t changed a thing.

    Sure would like some help or advice.

    Don, Have you check with your host to make sure the database server, is in fact, functioning?
