• Hi,

I’m trying to dress up my sidebar list items – such as putting an ” hr” tag between lists, or editing the “li” tag to start with that “&raquo” character. Yet editing l_sidebar.php does nothing, which I believe is because I am using widgets to customize the sidebar.

Using Firefox web developer plugin, I see that all of the sidebar items are controlled by css that is NOT in my theme’s css file…they are all under “#l_sidebarwidgeted”. Where the heck is this coming from??!

I’m trying for a list of items like here: https://www.artyblogs.com/graphical-sidebar-widgets/.

I have looked and looked and cannot track where I can edit the “widgeted” sidebar.

    Thanks for the help!

That’s correct. The widgets overwrite any manual editing… so, no use to try to edit anything.

Thanks very much for the reply….But then how are you able to dress up the left sidebar? That seems quite odd – how are others able to do this, for things that CSS can’t control (like adding an “hr” between list items)?

I’m surprised there’s no way to edit a widgeted sidebar! The thing gets its design from somewhere, doesn’t it?

Unless the solution is simply to NOT use widgets to display information in the sidebar….is this what you’re implying?

    Thanks again.

Yes, that’s what I meant. If you want hand edited sidebar – don’t use widgets.

Moshu, could you tell me where/how to insert this particular widget? I have downloaded them but unsure where they go. I don’t want to edit them but would like to see what they look like. Thank you for all your support.

oou.. i can understand too. thanks very much..
before i get confused with my blog

    thanks

Okay, that last reply made no sense to me. I just would like to know where to transfer the widgets/plugin to get them to work. The sidebar text is plain and could use a graphic or larger text. And even though Code is Poetry, I am in second grade trying to learn how to read it. ?? Thanks~

Go to Dashboard, Go to Presentation menu and open the Widgets tab, drag a Text Widget from Available Widgets to the Sidebar that available. Click the Configure icon on Text Widget that you just drag and insert HTML the code.

Hi Saylow, thanks for responding. I hope you will respond again. I need more clarification. I downloaded ArtyBlogs Graphical Sidebar Widgets and transferred them to my theme where I saw the other .php files. So, under Presentation, Widgets there are no new Widgets I just transfered. But I do see them under Theme Editor and I can view the HTML of each when I click on the respective widget.
So, am I to copy and paste the code into the Text Widget that you described above? That seems odd since I thought I would just click and drag it into position. Thanks again.
