We’ve experienced a couple of orders lately where we get notification of payment through PayPal, but no Order email ever comes in from Sunshine. We then verify that payment is in fact in PayPal and then verify that the order is not listed in the Sunshine Orders list.

I assume that this happens when the customer completes the purchase in PayPal and decides not to return to the website so the website never knows that the purchase completed. Since Sunshine doesn’t store the order immediately when proceeding to PayPal, the order becomes lost and we have no idea what the customer actually paid for, which is a major issue obviously.

I have my PayPal settings to Auto Return to the website. But this only seems to provide a link to return to the website and doesn’t actually return to the site automatically, the customer still needs to click the link. Most do but apparently some don’t. Am I missing something?

    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Ensure you do not have your PayPal IPN settings set to “Do not receive IPN messages” – https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/ipn/integration-guide/IPNSetup/

The order is created by an IPN called form PayPal, not the user returning to the site.

Note: The URL in the IPN settings is not important, put whatever – Sunshine gives PayPal the proper URL when it sends the user to PayPal’s site.

Gah, I somehow missed activating IPN in my PayPal settings. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

I don’t see any PayPal instructions in your documentation. Likely a useful tutorial entry for those that aren’t very familiar with PayPal.

    Thanks.

    Hi JboyJW

I too am having problems with this and I have set the IPN up in Paypal. I located the IPN url using the IPN for wordpress plugin and 2 live test orders got through after setup, but then it all failed again and the IPN messages are not getting through again.

How did you locate the IPN URL and did setting this up in Paypal work for you. This is a nightmare for us as we have oders going through and no way to reconcile them.

Many thanks if you have any advice I would really appreciate it

Yes, setting up IPN solved our issues. And as the plugin author noted above, the URL in the IPN settings is not important. I just put in the address to our homepage.
