• I have the WP files but not the database. Not sure of the version because the admin link does not work any more. I do not care about the comments or other posts that may be in the database.

Is it possible to create a wordpress site and then overwrite it with the files I have from the other site (not overwriting the cfg file that has the database location….etc)?

    Any help appreciated.

  • You can do that, but without the database you’ll have no content at all and be starting with a blank site again. The biggest issue for that is that you’ll loose the references to all of the media files that are stored in the database, but there are plugins that can help with that.

Thank you for your quick response catacaustic. The sites appearance seems in tact even though I cannot open the admin page. Is there a way, by examining the cfg file, to find the location of the database and if so will it be possible to import it into the sites new location by some manual means or plugin?

    Thanks again.

You can check database name from wp-config.php file then Upload your all files where you need to upload and then also Import database as well check below links for more idea
