• Hi,

I am new to WordPress and have been looking at wordpress to rebuild my photogallery website. The reason I am looking to move to wordpress as I dont want to invest time in maintaining the website apart from adding/deleting from albums. I can code a bit but want to keep such customisation to the minimum at it adds to maintainence in the final analysis. I have been looking at a lot of themes and plugins and there are a lot of them but none seem to satisfy all my requirements which are
    1. Responsive
    2. Have a good thumbnail/masonry display with a good light box
    4. need to be able to add custom tags to all images, and should be able to put on/off the display of this info from the lightbox
    5. Search needs to be able to search thru these custom tags and list images
    6. Need to be able to add social media share buttons on images, as well as custom buttons that could lead to print/buy or a shopping cart/payment gateway
    7. It has to be free, or close to free

Now WPAA+ seems to tick the most boxes but from the tries I have done I seem to have problems mostly in the ‘look’ of the gallery
    1. I am not able to display ‘full size’ images even when the images are just 800 pixels across. Thats even when I have no sidebars
    2. I want to have a a more contemporary ‘flat’ look. The standard ‘boxes’ that you get takes a lot of screen space and does look a bit dated
    3. Is WPPA+ responsive, it looks ok on my device but is it truly so.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this in WPPA+ (if it can be done) or suggestions for an alternate theme or any suggestions answering all the questions wholly or even partially will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    1. I am not able to display ‘full size’ images even when the images are just 800 pixels across. Thats even when I have no sidebars

The embedded lightbox has fullscreen modes. After etering lightbox ( you can configure all types of images that should open lighbox when clicked on ). Enter ‘f’ to enter fullscreen mode, repeatedly pressing the f-key rotates you thru 4 fullscreen modes: padded, clipped, stretched and real 1 to 1 pixel with scrollbars if the image is bigger than the screen.
There is also a fullscreen button ( click or touch ) at the upper right corner of the screen to toggle fullscreen mode ( padded ).

    2. I want to have a a more contemporary ‘flat’ look. The standard ‘boxes’ that you get takes a lot of screen space and does look a bit dated

Background and border colors as well as border radius is settable in the settings screen. If theme css causes too much space used, i can help you to add custom css in the settings screen to change that.

    3. Is WPPA+ responsive, it looks ok on my device but is it truly so.

It is responsive by default, however it was originally designed static. If you encounter any problems, i might be able to fix that.

The plugin is continuously worked upon to keep the users wishes implemented and the bugs away.

There is no free lite version and chargeable pro version, everyting is there in the one and only fully free version.
    However, donations are welcome.

Please visit the documentation site https://wppa.opajaap.nl/

WPPA+ is compatible with Cloudinary CDN system and Fotomoto printservice

    Dear Jacob,

Its wonderful to get a response from the author of the plugin

Let me first start off by congratulating you for building such a powerful and feature rich plugin and tank you for keeping it free.

    1. I am not able to display ‘full size’ images even when the images are just 800 pixels across. Thats even when I have no sidebars

The embedded lightbox has full screen modes. After entering lightbox ( you can configure all types of images that should open lightbox when clicked on ).

Could you please explain entering light box mode, I sont think I am doing this right and the ‘f’ button does nothing.
This is what I see if i click on a thumbnail
    https://goo.gl/4t8ofC

Here I would like it to be in a lightbox and original size.

Background and border colors as well as border radius is settable in the settings screen. If theme css causes too much space used, i can help you to add custom css in the settings screen to change that.

If you could give a sample or me\ark out exactly where in the css file i need to change I could do some trial and error and get back to you if I am still unable to do it.

I would just like to explain what I am trying to build. Its a fairly simple gallery, with the landing page having a pic of the day/random image
User can go to gallery thru the menu item
The gallery page could look something like this with thumbnails of albums with Titles
    https://goo.gl/pmASM9

Selecting a particular album should show all images (pagination when needed) in masonary or thumbnail style.
    Something like this
    https://goo.gl/hyAD82

Selection of a particular image should open it in full size (all images are 800 pixels at their widest side) unless they are on a device
They should be able to display title
    https://goo.gl/24BLIW

Additional info from specifies meta tags, which can be put on or off
    https://goo.gl/bMHGtt

and also social share buttons and other custom buttons something like this

You can set thumbnail type in Photo ALbums -> Settings admin page Table IV-C3.

In Table VI select under Link Type: ‘lightbox’ wherever you want it to happen.

    Hi Jacob,

Thanks, that helped but I have some additional queries

    1. How to increase the width of the panel holding the masonary
    2. how to decrease the width of side panels
    3. How to remove the border around the panel
    4. How to text (name or desc) on mouseover
    5. In II D I have set name and desc on, but they dont show up
    6. Is it possible to paginate?
Please check marked in this https://goo.gl/EsLUAY

    Gallery landing page
    1. The Albums should show as thumbnails/masonary. VI A 3 is set to “subalbums and thumbnails”
This is how it is showing
    https://goo.gl/8aA6wE

would like it something like this
    https://goo.gl/bMHGtt

    Meta Tags
    1. Is it possible to add custom meta tags for each image. Now I can see that there are tags like name, desc. Would like to add some more custom tags like location, month, date. Please note I dont want to display the EXIF info

Apologies for a wrong link in the above mail.

The second link in the “Gallery Landing Page” should be this

The width of the panel and the width f the sidebar(s) is determined by the theme you use.

If you set Table I-A1 to auto – required for responsive themes – the space for the wppa boxes is 100%; if you specify in the shortcode width="0.75" align="right" you will have 75% right aligned.

See also Table I-A5, 6 and 7 for other ‘global’ box-related sizes.

Table II-D.. Thumbnail related is for default thumbnails only. For all types you can use popup with various info, see Table II-D 8..18.
    Enable popup in IV-C8.

    Thumbnail pagination is Table I-C7

Album widget link type, must look into that.

Custom datafields: Tick Table II-J10. You can define up to 10 costom datafields; as soon as you define a name a field exists. Check the box for every field that you want to be able to show at the front-end.

Using Custom data is explained here: https://wppa.opajaap.nl/using-custom-data-fields/

The lightbox image is always centered on the screen, unrelated to the page layout. You can change appearance and behaviour settings in Tables I-G, II-G, IV-G, V-9.

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

If you set VI A 3 to “subalbums and thumbnails”, clicking the thumbnail in the ‘Thumbnail albums’ widget brings you to the landing page while displaying the content of the album. This can be Covers of sub-albums, and/or thumbnails of photos from the album.

Look at the widget activation screen for what albums you want to display in the widget.
    — all generic — means ‘all top-level albums’

Thanks this is a very powerful feature. I shall be using it alright. I might come back with more questions then.
But I am probably not doing something right, the text from the tags dont show up in the search

The lightbox image is always centered on the screen, unrelated to the page layout. You can change appearance and behaviour settings in Tables I-G, II-G, IV-G, V-9.

It is centered horizontally but not vertically. Its always stuck to the top of the browser

Still not able to get this
    Here is what I have
    a parent album – gal
this only has 2 albums below it ‘test wppa+’ amd ‘mamals’
so when i come to the page which has the shortcut [wppa type=”cover” album=”2″][/wppa]
I want to see 2 thumbnails which are for the 2 child albums and clicking on any thumbnail should go to a page with thumbnails/masonary of images from that album
But this is what i get
a title of the parent album with text
    https://goo.gl/U6hw9r
clicking on the text again goes to two text headeings for the 2 albums like this

    please advise

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

But I am probably not doing something right, the text from the tags dont show up in the search

The photos are only found if the text of the custom field(s) shows up in the description. Example: Field #0: Name: (on the settings page Table II-J10.0a) ‘Sponsored by:’, value ‘WordPress’ (on the photo information screen). Searching on WordPress will find the photo only if the description of the photo contains w#cd0, and Table II-J10.0b is ticked.

It is centered horizontally but not vertically. Its always stuck to the top of the browser
    https://goo.gl/auguQt

This is only in chrome to fix a chrome bug on mobile devices. You can switch it off in Table IV-G4.

[wppa type=”cover” album=”2″][/wppa] shows the cover of album 2
[wppa type=”covers” album=”2″][/wppa] shows the covers of the subalbums of album 2, that is currently the same as showing the content of album 2, what you can also show with:
    [wppa type=”album” album=”2″][/wppa] or
[wppa type=”content” album=”2″][/wppa] as long as there are no more photos in album 2 than the ‘photocount treshold’ See Table I-A4.

So, use [wppa type=”covers” album=”2″][/wppa] and select in Table IV-D6: default mcr, in Table I-D1 set a value in the range of 300.

Now I have the shortcode set to [wppa type=”content” album=”2″][/wppa]

there is a improvement, the child galleries do show up directly now.

How do you search? It are not tags.
Use the search photos widget or shortcode [wppa type=”search”][/wppa]

    Correct

Bust as you can see they show only as hyperlinked text, I want only thumbnail and a title

Try covertype Imagefactory mcr and/or make the cover images smaller ( Table I-D5 ).

    Hi,

Here is the link to the test site
    https://goo.gl/IXkYxY

On the home page I would like to have a random image picked from all the albums available, as you can see I am only able to get a slide show.

Btw is it possible to have the random image as a full screen background with a text overlay over it?

If you click on ‘test wppa gal’
you would notice that there is no thumbnail but text. I have tried reducing the width cover images also.
Here I would like thumbnails for all albums (max 8)

clicking on the thumbnails should take it to the actual album (which will contain only images, no sub albums) These images need to be displayed as thumbnails in Masonary style.

I have used the search as you have suggested (in the gallery page) and it works. But i want it to be where the standard WP search currently is.

    Thanks in advance

    I am confused.

The album covers WPPA+ Test and Mammals show no cover images. This usually means you made a selection for album cover image that does not exist, like ‘Random featured’ while there are no featured photos in the album.

What did you specify on the Edit Album information screen at Cover Photo: ?

When i click on WPPA+ Test or Mammals i get the display of the thumbnails as expected. The thumbnails, however, link to lightbox.

To my opinion, what you want is parent albums WPPA+ Test and Mammals that contain no images but only sub-albums. Set the link in Table VI-B1 to ‘same as title’. Set the Link Type: in all album ‘to the sub-albums and thumbnails’ ( this is the default ). Set the Cover Photo: selection to ‘— Random from (grand)children —‘.

There is a Search Photos widget that does the same as the one on the page.

Thats right, I assumed that it would randomly pick an image.
I changed to specific image and it worked so did the other workaround you suggested

Now if you see the title of the album is coming next to it.
Anywhere I can set its position to the below the image. Anyway to change text attributes, font/color/size.

If you can see everything as a base ‘box’ the search, the albums, the navigation text, the thumbnails. This was what I was mentioning initially as the boxes that I want to remove and give a flat feel. So is there anyway I can change the transparency or color so that the thumbnails/cover pages/ search box all look like they are directly seated on the background, the semi transparent dark box that you can see on this page. If that is possible then WPPA would integrate into whichever theme i use.

When i click on WPPA+ Test or Mammals i get the display of the thumbnails as expected. The thumbnails, however, link to lightbox.

Thats how I want it to work.
I was asking about setting the images to masonory style which I have been able to achieve

There is a Search Photos widget that does the same as the one on the page.

Try cover type Image Factory mcr in Table IV-D6
The image position can be set in Table IV-D3. Read the help [?] of this line.

You can change background colors in Table III.

Search widget: https://wppa.opajaap.nl/ at the very bottom of the page, right most widget of the 4
