Photon Issue

Keep Photon deactivated… now try to contact your host and tell them about broken links.

The domain prefix is indeed added by the Photon module. Photon works by offloading your images to WordPress.com’s free CDN, that lives at that domain.

If you do not want to see that prefix, you can deactivate the module by going to Jetpack > Settings in your dashboard. If the prefixes remain after deactivating the module, I’d suggest flushing your site’s cache, as well as your browser cache.

Rest assured, though: the Photon module doesn’t delete or edit any of the original images, and doesn’t edit your post content either. It only makes a copy of the original image. It didn’t delete any of your images.

I’m not sure where your broken link checker grabbed that image, though:

It might be worth asking the plugin authors about it, as I don’t know how the plugin works and how it grabs links in your posts.

Is it possible that you’ve changed your media size settings and regenerated thumbnails after uploading that image? If you don’t remember doing so, I’d suggest checking your site’s wp-content/uploads/ folder to make sure that thumbnails and resized versions are created for each one of the images you upload. If you don’t see any resized images, you’ll need to look into the plugins you’re currently using, as well as the permissions on your blog to understand why WordPress can’t create resized versions of your images.

How did Photon even grab the image if the original image is not there to begin with and I am absolutely certain that I did not remove a whole folder of images.

When I deactivate Photon from Jetpack, all of the past posts’ images break:

HOWEVER, when you go to that specific folder in FTP, I have no such folder. Under 2013, there is no 6 / June folder.

I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you much here, as the issue isn’t linked to Jetpack. If some of your images aren’t always available, Jetpack’s Photon will be able to serve cached versions of those images for a little while, but will eventually return broken links as the original images aren’t available anymore.

For Photon (or any other image CDN) to work properly, you’d need to make sure the original images are always available.

You’ll consequently need to understand why your images disappear from your hosting plan.

That FTP folder seems to mention a different site, kehagency.com. Is that another site of yours? Do both sites share the same uploads directory? If so, that might the source of your problem. You could start your investigation there, and make sure each site has their own uploads folder.

Until you solve this issue, I’d recommend that you keep the Photon module off. It will be easier to debug if you remove all caching mechanisms from the equation.
Once your original images are displayed nicely, you’ll be able to activate Photon again.
