This is a great plugin, a huge help. I see it’s been stopping thousands of bag registrations since I installed it about three weeks ago. Unfortunately, I’m still getting spam at the rate of 25/day.

    The site is loan-review.biz

Is there a complete guide to the settings? In researching I saw to check off the countries, and that helped cut the rate significantly. Is there a way to make the plugin more aggressive? Should I try the alternate captchas?

Is there a way to report spam users to the registries, or to the plugin itself? These systems only get ‘smarter’ if they get new information. I’d like to be able to flag spam users instead of just deleting them. If this feature exists I haven’t spotted it yet.

Thank you for all the hard work you’ve already put in. It truly is appreciated.

  • The current beta development version at BlogsEye.com has some new code that may help. First thing is to install the Red Herring add-on from the add-ons page in this version.

    I saw this article: https://blog.sucuri.net/2015/10/brute-force-amplification-attacks-against-wordpress-xmlrpc.html

I am putting in a check for this. My hosting company blocks this kind of attack so I don’t know if it works, yet. I will get freebie hosting account to test the plugin and hopefully the hosting company is not as smart as the guys at siteground.com.

My sites are stopping about 5,000 spammers a day (counting the login attempts) with maybe one or two spam comments a week. So I think that the host configuration plays a big part of it.

Thanks for getting back to me, Keith. I’ll try the Red Herring add on and take a look at the article.

Also, remember. If you use any of the JetPack protection options, Stop Spammers disables itself on some checks to prevent a possible conflict.

If you use JetPack you have to make up your mind who is going protect your site, because you can’t use both JetPack and my plugin.
