• Hi,
This is a weird one. Please read all the way through before posting as at the end I explain when (but not how or why) the error magically went away.

I had already searched this forum and Google and tried various solutions to this problem but never found an answer that fixed it.

    The error:

“The file ‘wp-config.php’ already exists. If you need to reset any of the configuration items in this file, please delete it first. You may try installing now.”

Since I’m creating a fresh site, it wasn’t a big deal to reinstall. I tried reinstalling twice as a subdirectory and once as a subdomain. I even created different databases and downloaded a new .zip of WordPress every time. Same error every time. It only appeared on the default home page.

Where it gets even more interesting:
On this latest subdomain install I created a static front page and assigned the Blog functionality to a generic “Blog” page and the error doesn’t appear on either of those pages. I switched it back and forth a couple of times and the error has yet to reappear.

While I’m glad the error is gone now, I’m concerned it will rear it’s ugly head again at some point. Any thoughts on this issue? This is a problem that seems to crop up every now and then but never has a definitive answer.

    Thanks!
