Ok, so WordFence seems to generate a false alarm when dealing with international editions of WordPress. It thinks that files such as version.php, wp-config-sample.php and readme.html have been modified from original.

I would mark these files as “permanently exclude” from scan, but I don’t really want to exclude them in case they get infected for real.

  • Yes, it does. I usually mark them “ignore until file changes”.

Thank you for the input — this is scheduled to be fixed in a future version. I don’t know the date yet, but you can see it in the changelog when it is implemented.
