• * Wp-config.php is configured correctly.
    * The database I specify therein exists.
    * The database user exists.
    * The database user’s username and password are correct.
    * The database user has every possible permission enabled.
    * The host name is correct.
    * I have not altered any of the other code in wp-config.php.
    * PHP and MySQL are up-to-date.

. . . And still, I receive the following message:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.hsphere.cc. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    What. The. Hell?

    Could someone help?

  • So did you talk to your host?

Might be the database server is down.

I am trying to install a new instance, and it is the same error as described above.

I have installed WordPress about 5 or 6 times, various versions, all on Yahoo webhosting, and it wasn’t until this 2.3.1 version that this error cropped up.

You can use Yahoo’s utility (which I hate as it is on version 2.02) and it works correctly that way on this same server.

I know I have it all set up correctly…seems like a bug with WordPress version 2.3.1 on installing…

I am going to try to install a known version I got to work before and see if it works, if it does, version 2.3.1 has issues.

I reverted back to a 2.2 version, for whatever reason, 2.3.1 isn’t working and will not even show the installation page

And if you think my wp-config.php file is bad, i used the EXACT same one for 2.3.1 for the 2.2 version, and the 2.2 works…

So I don’t know what to make of that…
