WP-Opt-In Giving Fatal Error; Doesn’t Work
-
WP-Opt-In is failing to activate, instead giving a fatal error. The problem is two fold.
- Open the php file in a plain text editor, add numbering to the page and locate line 384. It will read
sts('ns_show_top_commentators')) {
Delete the entire line and the empty one above it. - At the very end of the file is that ubiquitous extra line. Put your cursor on it and backspace it up to eliminate it. Save the file.
These two fixes cause it to install fine. I’ve left a comment at the author’s site so he’ll hopefully get it fixed soon.
Edit:
Still needs work. After configuring, I put it in the sidebar and looked at the page. The title said WP Opt-in (No way to change it in admin options or on the widget itself) and Hello World where the text should be that you wrote in options.<?php echo $before_title . 'WP Opt-In' . $after_title; ?> . 'Hello World' <?php echo $after_widget; ?>
I changed the two lines, leaving after title blank, and put back in the sidebar. Looked again, I had the right title, but nothing, no form, nothing I’d put in in the options showing. So my recommendation is don’t use this plug-in until it gets fixed properly. I only know enough to be dangerous, so am not going to mess with this anymore.
