Can’t post images

  • I’ve had a struggle posting images and I have given up trying to solve it myself.

    In most web-based interfaces I use, to load an image you click the “browse” button, go to where the file is located on your hard drive and click “load.”
    Then when you save your post – or whatever you’re working on – a script grabs the file and installs it on your web server along with the rest of the data.

    With WordPress it seem unecessarily complicated.
    I click the “add image” I get the interface box but there’s no easy way to get to file which could be in several locations, my D drive, my E drive on the NDAS…whatever.

    Regardless when I do find the file, cut and paste the path into the field on the interface (that’s a pain, please update that process,someone!) nothing happens, except I get that White box with the red X meaning it can’t find the file.

    I’m no code warrior but I manage to run my own website, modest as it is, but I’m just stumped and feel really stupid.

    All I want to do is add some small images to go along with my blog postings. Surely I shouldn’t have to learn XML tagging to do this?
    Help, please!

  • I don’ know what are you doing with the images… here’s how I do it:
    While writing the post I decide to upload an image to use it.
    Scroll down to Browse > find the image on my HD > upload.
    As it is done and I see the thumb of it > click on it.
    It gives you some options; usually I select thumb + linked to image
    Click Send to editor = the code is there in the post’s text.

    (If I have to re-use an image uploaded earlier > Browse All.)

    I just tried it again…same result which is the definition of stupidity but there you go.

    I click on the image icon

    pasted in the path: H:\Italycut\webpics\tinapannini.jpg

    and got a space for an image and the title…but no image.

    Do you actually UPLOAD the image to your server? Otherwise it will never be visible…

    And more importantly: do you read the replies to your post?

    No I don’t upload to the server…how would I do that…shouldn’t Word press do that for me?

    Look, it may seem obvious to you but its not to me. Now I see the upload function lower down but when I try to load I get this

    Unable to create directory /home/iharvey/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Which means you need to change the permissions on the “parent” directory = wp-content.

    And I’ve spent the last five minutes trying to fathom what the technospeak means.

    Where do I find the wp root directory?

    The help files are not clear.

    Someone needs to hire a writer to translate the geek language to real language. The support files are all over the place.
    Under FTP – and how would a non tech user know to read down there – there’s suddenly a section on changing access.

    A non tech user would assume the WP files are on their hard drive. They wouldn’t make the leap to understand it’s on their web host server. Especially since many non tech users have very simple web platforms and have a simple system to update their web sites, rarely having to go to their cPanels or the like.

    However, having said all that it still appears the permissions were already there…I added them again…but this is a really frustrating process.

    Which means you need to change the permissions on the “parent” directory = wp-content.

    I’ve spent the last while at my Cpanel of my webhost but everything seems to be in order there …and why wouldn’t it since they support wordpress and had it set up for simple install as I remember now.

    I have users designated for wordpress and the strings appear as noted in your instructions.

    But I still get the error message…..
