I had some pdf documents on my site which were deleted as they contained incorrect information. When doing a google search for my site the results came back with the usual stuff, which was fine, but in the search results there were also three pdfs that had been deleted two weeks earlier with the incorrect information. They were live links to the pdf files and they opened fully but were nowhere on my site. How on earth can Google still display them when they had been deleted and the site is updated daily. I have even gone into the server and there are no pdf files on it. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the results in the Google search for these files. This is serious and urgent guys. HELP

  • Just because you have modified the content of your website does not mean that google will stop showing deleted content. Google has no way of knowing you deleted content without a specific action on your part to remove links from Google.

You will probably be better off finding all the broken links using your Google Webmaster Tools and then using a redirect plugin to point bad urls listed in Google to your updated content.

Alternatively you could remove the URL of the PDF’s you want removed from Googles index by going to Google Webmaster Tools>Google Index>Remove URL’s

This takes a few hours and it will dissapear from the the search results

Thanks for your help guys, it worked and I have learned something new. Thank goodness there are people out there who know. And, as the saying goes, Those who know know – Those who don′t know, only think they know.
