Notification of updated category in front page?

I’m using WordPress as content management software for my site. My main page displays news, and I did a bit of tweaking so the site would work in a way that was very similar to my old site.

I just added a work blog to the site [ https://vice.parodius.com/category/blog/ ]; I was wondering if there was a way to update the front page (or any other location) with a tiny script that says “Blog last updated XX XX” or something similar?

I -think- it can be done with get posts by telling it to get the first post of the blog category and only displaying the title (with a permalink), but I’m not certain this is the right way to go about doing that.

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. Thanks. ??
