First let me say that you guys are doing great work, which I very much appreciate. I love the Publicize functionality.

I just wonder if there’s a way to get Publicize to stop adding a huge excerpt to Facebook updates. I’d rather it just posted the post title and the link, as it does with Twitter and LinkedIn.

I know I can edit the title it posts, and I bet if I put in a custom excerpt it would use that instead, but neither of those is what I want. I want FB to be just like LinkedIn.

    How can I get there?

    Thank you!

    Howdy,

At this time, there isn’t a way to do exactly like that. The closest would be a really short custom message (near the Publish button). Even simply a period would work, but that would be used on the other social networks as well.

Shame. Not even some sort of functions.php tomfoolery?

Nope. The process of packaging up the data for Facebook happens on WordPress.com’s servers. There’s not a toggle for disabling the excerpt—the closest is, if there is a custom message set, to use that instead, but if the custom message is blank, it’ll still use the default option.
