Don't want Slider on all Pages

I am new to wordpress, but a quick learner (also comfortable playing with code). I am using the theme Pixel-Linear. I have the slider activated “for the homepage” but it appears on all of them. I like having a nice sized image at the top of each page, but not the same slider. I don’t mind using the “Featured Image”function, but when I use this on the front page with the 3 boxed for widgets, the Featured Image shows up below the Widgets and I’d prefer it to be above.
I have the homepage set to static. Not using it as a blog site – more of a portfolio. Hope that wasn’t too confusing! Thanks!
