[Plugin: Events Manager] Using event start date as orderby in a Kriesi theme

I’m using Kriesi’s Enfold theme and have set the Masonry Gallery to display the events list, but would like the events to display by event start date.

I have used a plugin/hack made by Kerfred to add the event date to the slug (which works perfectly and is extremely helpful!), but when I use order-by slug, it only uses the last part of the url.

Is there a way to either use the entire slug to order the events, or perhaps add something to the functions.php file that will add the event start date to the order-by options?
