moving wp from subdomain

My wp install is on a subdomain and I would like to move it to either the root directory or a sub-directory on the same domain in order to launch it. Is moving from subdomain to the root or a subdirectory the same process as giving WP it’s own directory. Is it even necessary to move it or can I just redirect to the subdomain.

I wish there was a resource where all scenarios cold be outlined as I’ve found the codex to be informative but also confusing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
