Calculation

I am trying to set up a calculation. C8 = B2+B3+B4.
I click in C3 and on the formula bar enter = B2. The correct figure is displayed. However if I enter = B2+B3+B4 I get an #Value error message. I cannot see why Can you help pleaseThanks
