I downloaded a widget & the installation instructions say to put it in wp-content/plugins/widgets but of course there is no such directory now that widgets are integrated into the core. So where do I put it?

(I’m actually using WordPress version 2.3.1)

  • The question is actually will it work. If it was written for the old widgets plugin it may not work with the new integrated widget system. Basically widgets are regular plugins, so place it in your plugins folder directly. It should show up on your plugins page in the admin area. Try to activate it and see if it works–if it doesn’t then you’ll need to see if a newer version exists that does work, or find another plugin that does the same thing.

Thanks. That worked. The widget just didn’t do what I wanted it to. Ah well, back to the drawing board.
