Installation issues

  • Kindly help!!

    I am already 24 hours past a deadline on a blog project that should have been a snap. Have already read thru here so as not to waste your time (I hope!). Particulars:

    * Trying to install on a site of mine, getting error messages
    * Uploaded via dreamweaver, then tried Filezilla when it wasn’t working…says cpnfig file is not there however I can see it – correctly – in my cpanel
    * Here
    is the error I am getting
    * My server/host company (same) has software to install but it doesn’t do a full install and gives me a really lame dashboard without all the themes, etc.., plus the links (click to view, change posts, etc.) do not go anywhere. They redirect to some other site and it comes up completely blank

    So, question is, I cannot get in touch with their support and I’m losing it, I tell ya. Am I missing something very obvious? Pleeeaaase!!

    You uploaded the whole “wordpress” folder, not only its content! (unless you wanted to do it like that)

    Next. It seems you have a brand new domain which is not propagated through the entire web (it takes tiime=days), that’s why it cannot find the stylesheet: it is looking for it at your domain name (the two URI values in admin > Options > General) but it is working only at that IP number you linked to.

    Hi, Moshu and thanks – that /wordpress is the one I installed via the site software, which has a very basic dashboard and the functions of which do not work. How do I access my files that I uploaded, which I have not installed (to my knowledge)?

    I know the ‘name’ version does not exist yet, but can I not work within the numeric site version?…OR will it start to read the style sheets once the name is working?

    If nothing shows at the url above – there is nothing there.

    If you don’t like that version they offered, why don’t you delete it? (and as a rule of thumb: never trust any one-click gizmo that hosts offer…)

    You are right and I only used their site download in frustration after so many hours of trying manually…Yes, it is crummy and I will uninstall it. I’m feeling more and more like a moron as each moment passes. ??

    I may be confused as I tried creating a /index file thru filezilla to upload to but still nothing…plus my files on cpanel have this huge long subdirectory (i have no choice as far as I can see) ie. home2/winekitz then mine is in /public_html/admin…every combination I try by adding /wp-admin/install.php gives me nothing.

    Sorry to bug you but I’m now so confused I am not sure where to turn…

    P.S. I have also tried uploading the files under the IP addressrather than the name so they can be read…still nothing

    You should always upload EVERYTHING only in the public_html folder, or subfolders in that YOU create in it. Nowhere else! Its name is quite telling: “public” – that’s the part you will show your visitors. All the rest is just internal stuff, don’t bother to look at them.

    Thanks…so I can see all my files (in cpanel) and in the ftp link I sent above all is there except it says the config file does not exist. Why isn’t any of it showing in index?…

    This is wrong!

    Notice you have an “admin” folder between the public_html and wordpress.
    Plus, you should NOT use ftp in your browser but https://

    I got that whole address from my host guys…as a way to ‘easily’ upload and administer things. So much for that. I’m afraid I’m messing things up further.

    Thanks again, Moshu…I’ll have to keep playing with it, I guess. Although not sure what to do.
