Problem with Download Manager on one of two sites

I have my own Debian server and hosting some web sites. On one of my sites I want to have some nice file management for all users and found WordPress Download Manager. I made a test site and tested everything with almost all plugins but everything works good. Now when I started to migrate Download manager to the real site I am not able to download any files, the only thing I get is a lot of strange symbols. I have test both Excel and PDF files and it is the same.
Both the real and the test site is running at the same server so I can′t find anything in PHP or something that could make this problem, bot side should had the same problem then.
Anyone having any suggestions where I should start investigate? I have tried to inactivate a lot of plugins on the real site but still the same. Found that one other user had some problem with some cache plugin but after I cleared the cache I still have the problem.
