site login is 10 minutes plus, why?

  • site login is 10 minutes, why?
    I’m a noob, but i cant figure what the cause of this is. My guess is that server is asleep and im waiting on it to wake up.??

    front end of site is fast and once i finally get logged in everything from there is fast. this morning it has been 20 minutes and im still waiting

    any Ideas? hopefully you aren’t going to tell me to deactivate all my plugins and change theme. Some one must have dealt with this before.

    What happens you are logged in? That is, once in the dashboard, does the dashboard act slow too?

    Is the frontoffice of your site slow too ?

    Is there anything in the server logs?

    If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

    The only other thing I find that slows down login is Security plugins and sometimes caching plugins.

    Check the server logs first as Tara suggests to make sure there are no major issues but if that reveals nothing, deactivate all your plugins and see if that fixes.

    How?
    Rename /wp-content/plugins to /wp-content/plugins_old and now try to login? Is it the same? If not, it is a plugin related problem – One by one, copy each folder from within /wp-content/plugins_old into /wp-content/plugins and test after each one – this may identify the offending plugin
