Entry file name help

    I installed WordPress to use it as a site management tool instead of a blogging tool. I figured it would be easier to do this than update all pages manually every so often, you know? Well, I installed WordPress and it runs fine. No problems whatsoever. I do however have a few issues with the file names… or rather, I have a few questions.

    Is there a way to create an entry so it can be a category index? For example, I have a category called pudding. So, is there a way to create a page that would show up when someone goes to my site at https://mysite.com/pudding/ – which wouldn’t show all the posts in that category, but an index of sorts instead, which would then contain links to the posts in the category (manually added by myself)?

    I’m not sure if I explained myself correctly. My apologies, I’m pretty bad at this… thanks.

    Something like that. That’s my site, actually – the link is just changed so people can’t access it right now.

    I still don’t get it. Is that what you want or what you don’t want.

    Clicking on a category name it will always display the posts in that category. WHAT to display on that “category archive view” – it’s entirely up to you.
    Using the Category_Templates you can add/edit/delete whichever Template_Tags you want or don’t want. You can show just titles, full posts, excerpts with or without author, date etc.

    That’s pretty much what I wanted to do, I just didn’t know if it was possible. I wasn’t aware that categories had their own ID numbers, or that you could add a template to each one.

    So what I’ll do now is add the category, and not add anything to that category’s template other than links to each individual post, like I do just now. It’s a bit more work, but this’ll be enough.

    My website has had a particular directory setup for the past six years. Most people already know that if they want to access that part of my site, they just type the address and the folder name to get to that part of the site.

    The thing is, there’s going to be at least fourteen different pages. Some of those pages are in varying levels of completeness (some projects are done; others are not) so adding them so the site lists them in chronological order or whatever isn’t a good idea. I’d prefer it if I could add the permalinks to each particular post individually instead of having the site do it for me. That way, I can customize the way the links are shown, if I want to include images, or other details.

    I -do- understand why and how category indexes are used. I do plan to have at least two sections of the site using that category index: the “articles” section, and the old news archive. But for this particular purpose, using a post list isn’t a good thing.

    I’m sorry if I irritated you, that was not my intention. I just want to make WordPress act in one particular way, at least in this case.
