• I noticed on a WordPress site I maintain for a client that one of their phone numbers get replaced.

As the page is loading the correct phone number is showing. As soon as the page has loaded the number changes to a different one. All instances of that one number is replaced with a different one. In widgets and content.

I backed up the site and installed it to a local machine to find the problem. If I have the local machine offline, the proper phone number stays but once it’s online, the number changes again.

Any ideas? I can’t figure this out.

  • Hi isourcedesign,

Could you please add a link to the site?

    Thanks!

All instances of the Calgary phone number are being replaced. Sidebar, footer…

Thanks for showing me the site.

The website owner is using a service to track phone calls from their site. This helps them understand how their advertising is performing. The new number that you see is forwarded to their actual number, so they receive the call. The new number that’s displayed on the site helps them with their tracking.

If you’re still concerned and not quite sure what I’m talking about, please contact your client and confirm what I’ve said.

With that said, I see the code for the call tracking program on the page, so that’s how I can see what’s happening.

    Hope this helps!

You’re right. A service to track the phone calls.

    Thanks!

Where do you see the tracking code? I didn’t see it in the source view.

    Hi there,

You won’t see it in the source view.

Use the developer tools in your browser (in my case Chrome or Firefox) to see the tracking code.

    You’re very welcome!

P.S. what you’re looking for is callrail.com if you’re looking at the code.
