It seems that when I try to upload images above certain dimensions to the media library, wordpress doesn’t generate the usual thumbnail/medium/large versions.

I’ve been trying this with PNG and JPG images in horizontal and vertical orientations. The same image in PNG format will upload fine at 1128×1600 pixels (147 KB), but at 1199×1700 pixels (160 KB), I get the message “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.” The image appears at full size, but the smaller versions aren’t generated and its thumbnail in the media library is broken. For JPG, an image at 1900×1272 pixels (1.6 MB) work, but 2000×1339 (1.8 MB) gives me the same problem.

I just updated to WordPress 4.2.3 last week and installed the Workality Plus theme. I don’t have any plugins activated.

  • Hi danieduck,

It could be an issue with the theme. Try activating another theme and see if the problem persists. If you don’t have the same issue with other themes, it’s probably something inside Workality Plus.

If this is the case, check with the Workality Plus theme’s author to see if they can help you correct it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried activating 2 other themes (Classica and Twentyfifteen), and while I could get a couple of additional sizes to upload, the issue is largely still there.

I’ve figured it out. PHP safe_mode was the problem; my server was using an outdated version of PHP, so I updated to 5.5 and the issue was resolved.
