change category -> editions

Actually, I’d prefer to remove category completely.
Is there a way to do that either?

No, there isn’t. You can replace it with whatever you want but you can not remove it – without the danger of screwing it up…

What is that “edition” in the URL? (there is nothing there if I cut the rest of the url)

has to be there for SEO purposes.
It’s not a category or anything.
How can I change category to editions then?

It says clearly on your permalink settings page: type “editions” in the category base field.
