The smartest way to mass upload is via the Photo Albums -> Import Photos admin screen.
Open this screen and find the location of your depot, usually
.../wp-content/wppa-depot/admin/ or .../wp-content/wppa-depot/denis/ if you login as denis.
FTP your photos to this depot location, and reload the import screen.
Select the album and the photos you want to get into the album and press the Start Ajax button. Go drink a beer or let the dog out or wait for completion. No problems with server timeouts, comm errors, the process will continue, except if you close the browser window.
It is recommended ( not forbidden though ) to have no more than 20.000 photos in a single album.
If you do not want the previews because you know what you are doing and it takes to long to load them, switch the previews off in Table IX-B14.
