• I received an email from WP today saying my site had been updated to 4.2.3.

However I can no longer access my website. When I log in there is a WP screen which just says:-

    No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

    Continue

When I continue it just goes straight to the URL with no access to behind the scenes

    Help please

  • Having the same issue. I’ve read on other threads that re-installing WP can fix the issue, but I’m reluctant to go through all of that trouble.

    Anyone else have a solution?

Seeing the same issue. Have manually uploaded wordpress core and still getting the same issue. Have noticed that it is only happening on certain environments.

Same problem. No access to my e-commerce store is a serious issue. I need a solution asap.

Same, it’s killing all my sites and client’s sites. Can’t believe this bad update got past the developers

Ok, it seems to be a caching issue. If you have any caching plugins that may be it. Try one of two things:

    1. I went into my FTP > wp-content folder and found 2 files – advanced-cache.php and object-cache.php. They are generated by my W3TC plugin. I deleted them and that fixed the problem. So if you have similar files in wp-content folder that have cache in the name, you can delete it – it’s not part of the wordpress core. You plugin will regenerate those files once you’re back in the admin.

    2. You can also try deleting your caching plugin folder under wp-content > plugins

Steven is right, it’s a caching issue. I just contacted my hosting provider (DreamHost) and they were able to fix it for me immediately.

My host fixed it and said my “WP-admin section was corrupted” and they had replaced core files. Removing the caching plugin and some caching files didn’t seem to help, and it is also happening on a site where I do not have a caching plugin installed.

I am facing a similar problem. I updated to the 4.2.3 version and since the site is showing the below error:

The file ‘wp-config.php’ already exists. If you need to reset any of the configuration items in this file, please delete it first. You may try installing now.

The upgrade has happened so it is out of the maintenance time but its stuck at some place. Can someone help please?

To expand on my post just above: since my host couldn’t, wouldn’t, or at least didn’t provide me with which “core files” it replaced I took a chance that seemed to work:

My particular problems all hinged on getting a “file not found, this is embarrassing page” on trying to access the admin, and if you looked at the url window was supposed to be going to an upgrade.php file, but that file no longer existed in the wp-admin folder.

So I uploaded upgrade.php (dated 6/9/15) to the wp-admin folder by FTP, and THEN when trying to get to the admin area I got the window that said “Database update required”, and could click the button and continue on.

It has worked for three sites so far, and all at different hosts.

Since the update, I can not longer search my posts by category. When I went to search all published post’s for a category it thinks a minute then says no posts found.
