• Through a bit of testing, I found that this plugin does not create a bitlink when a draft is saved, but it does create a bitlink if that draft is previewed.

While this behavior is not terrible, it does end up creating two bitlinks for one post — one with the post ID in the link from the draft, and one with the full page name in the link from the published post (assuming permalinks are set up to show the page title in the link for the site in question).

I see that the bitlink associated with the draft ends up redirecting to the permalink once a post is published, so it’s not a huge problem for user experience. However, it seems to muddle up the data in the bit.ly admin dashboard a bit.

I should probably also stipulate that our site uses the Easy Social Share Buttons to display the Twitter share button, which upon a draft preview, does end up getting populated with the bitlink associated with the draft link. I think we will also eventually be using the Better Click to Tweet plugin to put tweetables inside our posts that would also be using the bitlink WP Bitly creates, but I haven’t gotten to the point of testing this yet.

I’ve been realizing that there’s no way to set up a redirect for a bitlink (i.e. to change the link a bitlink points to after it’s created) using a free bit.ly account, so I’m assuming there is no way to make the link to the draft the same as the link to the published post.

Is there a way to make sure the draft link is not even created when the draft is previewed?

    Thanks!
