• Anyone know how to change the site URL of my blog?

My site is plain old html but I have a WordPress blog in a directory so it’s like this: mysite.com/WORDPRESS

How can I change it so that there is a link back to the homepage rather than staying static on the same directory.

    Thanks

  • Changing the WordPress Site URL

Anyone know how to change the site URL of my blog?

First, do not go to Dashboard > Settings > General and change anything there. The info you see there only tells WordPress what to expect and to use for itself whenever a browser might request something from WordPress. Those settings do not in any way control your domain URL. Control of your domain URL can be done either at your server dashboard or with .htaccess.

…a link back to the homepage rather than staying static on the same directory.

You will need to be more specific about details in order for anyone here to be able to know exactly what you are trying to do. Do you want visitors to your domain URL to begin at your HTML site and then be able to click to your WordPress or do you want your domain URL to begin at WordPress with “a link back to the homepage” of the HTML site? That is what you seem to have said, but your title suggests the other.

WordPress is located within a directory of the site so, for example, mywebsite.com

The issue I have is that when someone visits the blog (within a directory) by clicking the WordPress Site URL they are taken to the index page of that directory….I would like them to go to the root level index.php on my main site…

    Thanks!

Also – just to add that I did change the URL at the Dashboard > Settings > General level but it crashed the site.

(To get the site working again so that I could log in I had to edit the URL within mySQL admin – wp_options)

Any other ways to change the main homepage link? I’m thinking that .htaccess at the WordPress root would work?

WordPress starts with index.php, and .htaccess is what is telling your domain URL to go there. I do not know exactly how to handle things in your situation, but you will need to edit the redirect there in .htaccess.
