Putting “Edit” links on every post and page.

  • How do I do this? I want to be able to easily and simply edit a particular post every time–like it is on the default/basic install. I’m using Cutline-3, and I want the “edit this post/page” to show up.

    I would prefer it to give me the option if only if/when I’m logged in; to say “edit this post,” etc…

  • No need for plugin. Check the index.php of the default theme (since you already know that one does it) and copy over the code into your theme’s template(s).

    I’d go the plugin route ;). There’s one I recently found that is great for this. It’s called ‘wordpress.com admin bar’ and it puts admin links at the top of your website – but only shows up for people who are logged in. There are several variations of this plugin and you can find it, and the variations, listed here https://www.wp-plugins-db.org/plugin/wordpresscom-admin-bar/

    Since you have a simple template tag that can be easily inserted in the template files and it is visible only to the admin – why would anybody bother with more?
    The OP specifically asked for the link as it is in the default. The answer is above.

    Sorry, missed your question, Moshu. The person sounded uncomfortable with messing with code – though it’s definitely an easy change. Also, I like the admin bar because I can get quick access to various parts of admin directly from my site and it only shows up when you are logged in. Yes, yours is a more direct answer to getting the exact results requested. Mine was just another option. ??
