Prevent "Scroll to top" before opening lightbox

Each time I click on the gallery to open lightbox carousel, the entire page scrolls to top and causes my readers to lose track of the article.
How do I prevent this?

I tried adding e.preventDefault(); at the click event but it doesn’t work.

Please help.
