Escaped codes when editing Hebrew post

I”m using WP to publish a Hebrew based blog, still at the experimental stages.
I can easily publish posts in Hebrew characters- but when I try to edit that post, the edit box contains a whole bunch of escaped codes for the characters (something like: שנייה שאני).
Does anyone know a way around that?
