link archives to iframe

I am using WP 1.2. I am using my own template, I only need to show the blog. I don’t use the search, calendar, etc. So I used wp.php instead of the index.
However I would like the monthly archives to show up on my right side panel and get their link targetted to an iframe. How can I do this, get the archives to open in my specified iframe? I know I can use a php call to get the monthly archives links to show, I just can’t seem to target them.
