Remove billing period from Coupon discount amount

When a coupon is applied to an order containing a subscription, the following is displayed:
“-$1.50 now then $0.00 / month”
This is very confusing for people and I’d like to remove everything after the discounted amount so that it only displays:
“-$1.50”
I’ve tried removing the subscription billing period using the official snippet found here, but the snippet does not do anything. I’ve also tried adding my own filter and been able to remove the entire line, but can’t figure out how to target it to just remove the text and the subscription period. Any help is extremely appreciated.
