bbPress and WordPress visual integration

I am interested in visually integrating bbPress 8.3 into WordPress 2.3. So far they are both integrated in terms of databases, etc., so that users who log in through the WordPress blog are automatically logged into the bbPress forum.

I have been reading this thread and this website but I still can not get it to work properly. In both cases, when I changed the header and footer commands to “<?php get_header(); ?>” and “<?php get_footer(); ?>” respectively and also activated the ThemePress plugin, the forum page started to look like the rest of the main site except that the footer was pushed out of place and overlying the forum topics. I couldn’t get it to move so I reverted back to the default Kakumei theme.

Is there an easy to use step-by-step guide around that will allow me to perform this visual integration? If not I would be most grateful if someone who has done this before could point me in the right direction.
