Hi, I have been trying to upload a video shot from our GoPro onto one of my posts. The first time I tried it told me the file size was too large, so I edited it to make it smaller. When trying to upload again, this time I received an error message stating something along the lines of “file type not allowed for security reasons.” I tried changing the format of the video a few times and each time received the error message “http error.” I searched these problems in the forum but it seems all the answers I’ve found are either very old, or for different hosting sites, or way too complicated for me. (Or some combination of the three.)

I know absolutely nothing about coding, and I’m very new to blogging/website building, etc, so please explain things to me like I am a child, I won’t be offended.

I use Bluehost as my hosting site and a Windows operating system with Internet Explorer.

Thank you so much for any help!

  • This is not an uncommon issue. Video files can be large and encoded in many different ways, not all of which may be supported in host account or even in all browsers.

Many work around that by using a third party to host the video (Youtube, Vimeo, etc.) and then all you need to do is provide the URL to the video in your post.

It also takes the burdon of streaming the video off of your host account and can get it (and your site) more noticed.

You can very likely upload a fair length Full HD GoPro video to Youtube and embed it in a post and it will likely stream quickly and look great.

So would I create my own YouTube channel? I didn’t even think about doing that. Thank you!

    You could do so!
