• I have purchased a booking plugin. While finishing up the site I had the need to trouble shoot something so of course I went the typical course of going to the 2010 theme, then one by one deactivating the plugins.

When I deactivated the booking software it deleted everything relates to it from the database. I mean everything (all set up services, the calendar, appointments). I contacted the Dev and they said yes, deactivation completely uninstalls it all from the db.

I’ve seen the option to completely uninstall a plugins and everything it puts in the db. I’ve also seen plugins give adequate visual warning that uninstalling will delete data.

I’m just questioning this particular plugins, since we did pay for it, if complete deletion of all settings and data when deactivating the plugins is fairly normal for plugins development.

I think the site owner wants to know this as much as is like

  • Try asking the plugin developer directly.

I did ask the plugin developer. I just was curious as to the common practice when making plugins that store data and complicated settings (like service schedules).

Is it not ok to ask about plugin development standards here?

It varies from plugin to plugin. A well-written plugin should not delete its settings when it is deactivated. Only when it is deleted.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to know.

This particular plugin offers a 30 day money back guarantee, and I wanted to inform the client about common practices with WordPress in general (ie one of the first trouble shooting actions for wordpress is to deactivate plugins and revert back to a basic theme) so they can decide for themselves if they want to carry on with this plugin or send it back.

I felt terrible when I deactivated the plugin to find all the data we had spent over 2 hours inputting was gone (the site wasn’t live yet or near completion but it was still a bit of a startle).

    Thanks for the basic info.
