• Help! pages not loading

Pages are often not loading properly. There is no error code, just a blank white screen. It seems that I’ve got about a 50/50 chance of being able to navigate the site, whether it’s on the front end as a visitor or on the back end as an admin editing pages and whatnot. Anything requiring a page to load appears to load a completely blank page about half of the time. I can’t think of any reason it should perform any differently than it did a week ago when everything worked properly.

Troubleshooting: I’ve used different browsers, different wifi networks and removed any unnecessary/inactive plugins, just to rule out those possibilities.

The only solution I can think of would be to reinstall wordpress, but can I do that without losing my content, having to reconfigure plugins, etc.? Should I do this from the updates page of the dashboard or is that not recommended?

  • I have good news Kthulu667, it is possible to replace the WordPress files without starting from scratch! Here’s how:

    1. Start by opening up your favorite FTP application
    2. Find a place on your computer to download the wp-content folder & the wp-config.php file found in the root folder. This is where the plugins and theme is kept. This is done as a precautionary method.
    3. Next this is where you delete the wp-admin & wp-includes folder. You can delete the files in the root but DO NOT delete the wp-config.php file.
    4. Go to www.remarpro.com to download a new copy of WordPress.
    5. Unzip the compressed file and upload the folders and files you deleted in the earlier steps.
    6. Load up WordPress again and see if you are back on track!

You can always check this page on the Codex for Common WordPress Errors.
