Use Plugin With Dedicated Shariff Backend

sorry, I haven’t understood yet, what exactly you want to achieve. The plugin already includes the Shariff backend. If you want the share counts to be shown, simply enable it on the plugins options page. A seperate installation of the Shariff backend is not necessary.

I understand that it isn’t necessary, but we want to use Shariff on multiple front end applications, not only WordPress. This is why I think about using a single Shariff backend and have all Shariff front ends talking to it.

Question is what would be necessary to:
– disable Shariff backend install
– configure plugin to use different backend

ah ok, got it. Well actually I guess the easiest solution for this would be to use the Shariff backend from our plugin for all installations. It is identical to the Heise version except for some extensions for WordPress specific options.

For exmaple, if you are using the original Shariff frontend, you could simply set the data-backend-url to the backend of our plugin.

data-backend-url="https://www.YOUR-DOMAIN.com/wp-content/plugins/shariff/backend"

Of course you need to adjust the path to the plugin dir of your WordPress installation and all frontends need to be on the exact same domain. In example https://www.your-domain.com ist a different domain than your-domain.com without the www. This is a protection from the original Heise code to protect you from request from others.

Thanks JP, I’ll give it a try and see what needs to be done. Still, would be nice to have as an option for this WP plugin to also work with a different Shariff backend.
